Tanner: Fujitoyo Kogyo [Sumida - Japan]

The Himalayas are a myriad of mountain ranges that separate the Tibetan Plateau, famous as the world's largest plateau, and the Indian Peninsula. It is an area with an overwhelming scale of 8,000m above sea level and unspoiled nature, offering some of the most unique scenery in the world.
Inspired by the scenery, Himalaya is a crocodile leather.

The white and brown gradation that resembles the Himalayas is a beauty that will command a premium. Bags from famous fashion houses have been priced at more than 40 million yen.

Even among crocodiles, well-balanced markings (scale patterns) and high-quality leather are essential.
In order to reproduce the crisp whiteness reminiscent of the snowy landscapes of the Himalayas and the gradation ratio that can be called the golden ratio, we select the top few percent of crocodiles.

Why is it necessary to be so thorough and selective?
This gradation is the natural color that emerges when bleaching crocodile.

A technology that transforms an individual's natural color into overwhelming beauty.
The center is more pure white.
The sides are light brown.

This technique is a specialty of Fujitoyo Kogyo, a world-class tanner.
It is rare to see such a transparent gradation.

There are only about 20 tanneries in the world that have crocodile tanning technology. There are 6 companies in Japan. If you compare it with the tens of thousands of cowhide tanners around the world, you can see how rare it is.

The reason there are so few crocodile tanners around the world is because it takes a lot of effort and time.
The number of transactions per year is limited for animal protection reasons, and the farming process itself takes many years, but there are major differences in the tanning process.
It took several weeks to get the hard scales covering the body ready for processing.
It takes three months to complete the entire process for one crocodile, even if the work is done non-stop.
It's a daunting process that involves checking and fine-tuning various conditions on a daily basis, including temperature, humidity, and the condition of the hide.
This is the highest quality leather produced by the tanner's overwhelming knowledge and the passion of the craftsmen.

The tanning process takes a long time and is finished using skilled techniques.
The original beautiful expression of the crocodile stands out like a mountain range.
The Himalaya selected by the Brooklyn Museum has been treated with a surface treatment that is UV resistant and scratch resistant to prevent yellowing due to use, so you can enjoy this look for a long time.

Crocodile tanning is said to be difficult. When it comes to the Himalayas, work must be done more carefully, delicately, and without any deviations, so the thorough quality control that only a very limited number of craftsmen are allowed to work on also increases its value.

Premium crocodile that continues to be sought after by celebrities around the world.

Among crocodiles, Nile crocodile is highly praised all over the world for its well-balanced scale pattern and high-quality leather.
Among the highly rare Nile crocodiles, we select those that pass strict quality checks and display the beautiful gradation of white and brown that resembles the Himalayas.

Why can it only be expressed using carefully selected crocodiles?
This is because this gradation is a natural color unique to individual crocodiles.
