In the past, the “horseshoe type” and “box type” were the mainstream, and I liked their rugged designs and used them regularly.
However, since 2000, men's fashion silhouettes have become mainstream with slim and stylish designs. When I put a coin case in my pants pocket, I started to notice that the shape of the coin case reflected on my pants and ruined my silhouette.
So, I thought it would be great if there was a coin case that would match modern fashion styles, and I began developing one.
“The Melancholy of Pants Pockets”
Some men's pants have a small pocket inside the right pocket to store coins, but the weight of the coins would leave a hole in the pocket, and the coins would hit each other and make a jingling sound, so while it was convenient, it was not very gentlemanly. As with the silhouette, I started to worry about these things, and I often heard the same opinions from customers.
The points I was concerned about with the horseshoe and other types I had been using were that when taking out coins, the coins overlapped each other, making it difficult to recognize each one, making it difficult to take them out in a smart manner, and the coin case itself bulging as the coins overlapped.
Based on this experience, I started thinking from all angles about what kind of coin case would satisfy these five points: not only would it not affect the silhouette of the pants, but also size, storage capacity, ease of access, and design.
“Balance between form and storage capacity”
First of all, in order to create a form that doesn't look like pants, we considered the thickness of the coin case itself, the corners of the design, and the accessories (zips, buttons, etc.), and decided to make several samples and try them out.
After trying various types such as square, round, oval, and deformed, I found that the oval shape was difficult to resonate with.
Based on the results, we made oval samples of various sizes and tried them again based on the issues of ``form'' and ``storage capacity,'' so that they could store about 20 coins.
After much trial and error, we came up with a shape and size that ``almost doesn't affect the silhouette of the pants,'' and has the ``storage capacity'' that allows you to keep around 2,000 yen at all times while keeping your coins tidy and easy to take out.
