“Why we are particular about glasses”

Cordovan is a part of the butt leather from agricultural horses that has an extremely dense and strong fiber layer. Because the amount that can be harvested from one horse is small, and some horses do not have that much Cordovan layer formed, their rarity value is increasing worldwide.

The Brooklyn Museum's cordovan belt uses ``glasses,'' which are even more valuable than other cordovan belts, with the coccyx part uncut.
Glasses are a large piece of leather that only one out of every 50 cows can produce.

Glasses have an area near the coccyx called the ``kane'' where there is no cordovan layer, which may cause some roughness. The fact that it naturally blends in with you as you wear it and develops a beautiful luster is the hallmark of a single piece of leather.

─Why are you so particular about glasses?

The Cordovan belt that we want to create has a seamless, dressy feel, so to speak, ``simple is best.''
And not only does it look beautiful, but it also has a level of quality that makes it hard to wear out and can be used for many years.
Since the belt is made from cordovan, which is difficult to obtain, we want an overwhelming appearance and higher quality.
With that in mind, I continued making belts.

“The invisible part. That’s why we don’t cut corners.”

The key point is whether you can use it for many years.
It's all about choosing the core material.

A core material used between leather. There are probably few people who have seen the core material.

All belt cores produced by Brooklyn Museum are made of tanned soft leather.
Generally, synthetic materials are often used as core materials, but by using a core material called shibu-doko, the strength is increased and it is difficult to wear out.
Paying close attention to the parts that cannot be seen from the outside is an essential point in order to ensure that the product can be used for a long time.

Another point is that it is made using a method called "feather".
One way to make a dress belt is to add volume to the center of the belt and create a three-layer structure. This technology adds smooth curves and a beautiful solid appearance.
It also improves the fit when the belt is tightened.

The front surface is cordovan, and the back surface is made of tanned leather with sandpaper to raise the pile. Furthermore, when attaching the buckle, instead of using a sewing machine, the buckle is sewn firmly by hand in four places, making it so durable that it will not budge even if you pull the buckle.

“Mission to maintain quality”

The buckle is made of brass.
Brass is a material that has a heavy weight that gives it a luxurious feel, but also has solid strength. The back side is also carefully polished and plated to prevent scratches on the belt band.

Even when it comes to individual parts, we are able to maintain a high level of quality because we are particular about handcrafting each piece.

Cordovan's careful glazing finish gives it a beautiful luster the more you use it, creating an elegance.

Due to the characteristics of the material, there is no room for error in the manufacturing process, and many craftsmen take the time and effort to complete the product.
In order for you to feel the splendor of the material to the fullest, we must pay close attention to everything, even the parts that cannot be seen, otherwise the precious material will be wasted.

We believe that maintaining and further improving the quality of our products is our mission to inherit the pride of all craftsmen and share it with the world.

Not only is the material good, but
Pursuing quality down to the comfort and details,
The Cordovan belt for the Brooklyn Museum has been completed.
