Things we want to pass on to the next generation <Kids event edition>

Hello.

My name is Harumi Naito, COO of Brooklyn Museum.

The hot summer is over, and the sunny autumn days are soothing.

This summer feels hotter than last year,

There was a day when it was so hot that I felt shamefully suffering from heat stroke and had to be given an intravenous drip...sweat.

Recently, I asked my son who is learning SDGs at elementary school.

When she said to me, “Mom needs to be sustainable!”, I didn’t have any words to respond…lol

Well, this time it was held in spring.

I would like to talk about the kids event.

There was something I wanted to convey to the children through this event.

That is, ``There is a technology that turns the ``skin'' of the meat that everyone eats into ``leather.''

“We make use of the benefits of leather to create products that enrich our daily lives.”

It's about the "circle" of life.

When making things, there are always scrap materials.

As part of our project activities called “Offcuts are also life”, we

We will not throw away scraps until we run out of them.

The reason is that by making full use of it, it becomes a source for thinking about new possibilities.

The day before the event.

The staff drew a large tree motif and cut out leftover leather into leaf shapes.

It was a night where all of us, the staff, were enjoying the preparations and were all united in saying, ``We're going to make this a success!''

Although it cannot be seen from the shop, there is a large clicker (die cutting machine) at the back of the hallway of the Aoyama main store.

There are various machines installed, such as a band knife (leather skiving machine) and a leather sewing machine.

While sorting through the scraps, use a clicker to pull out the leather leaves.

Now, let's start the leather artwork.

``THE elementary school boy'' who was just fooling around with his friends has turned on his motivation switch!

"Let's use this color here!" "Why don't you make a sun here?" etc.

Design your own leather leaf.

Then I asked, "How about this?"

I suppressed the urge to inadvertently cause unnecessary interference...

My mother always watched over me no matter how naughty I was.

I also try to be like my mother, but the reality is that I'm a bit lazy.

It takes patience to watch.

Finally, it's completed!

The first piece is Yamato and persimmon tanned leather art that allows you to fully enjoy the beautiful aging.

The leaves sway in the breeze and the beauty of the way the fallen leaves fall is mesmerizing.

As time passes, 5 years, 10 years,

The darkness and luster of Yamato & Kakishibu leather will increase, and it should become a golden tree.

``When I turn 20, let's all have a drink while looking at this leather tree!'' I promised.

About 20 years ago, Yamato wanted to end the era of disposable items.

After much trial and error with the founder, current owner, and tanner,

This is the original Brooklyn Museum leather that was born.

It's what we call "leather that returns to the earth."

In today's world, it would be "sustainable."

Art that ages with the progress of life.

A timeless “sustainable leather art” has been completed.

The second work is definitely about the sun!

Well-designed with pop colors,

“Power art made from the finest leather” is a work that makes your heart skip a beat and makes you smile every time you look at it.

French calfs are rare and high quality calfs worldwide.

In Europe, calf is supplied as a by-product from cultures such as French cuisine.

Many big maisons select it because of its quality.

After taking a short break, it was time for the keychain workshop.

There were many situations where concentration was tested, but some students did it all at once and others did it carefully, each at their own pace.

Some of the boys even bothered me by making me laugh.

The “mood maker boys” have always done a great job.

The key chain is completed with a sense that would rival any adult.

If you look closely, you can see that the edges are sticking out and the caulking is out of place.

That's charm and memories, isn't it?

During the long-awaited snack time, everyone tried cooking Shiratama.

Relaxing time with Shiratama and juice.

A unique smile! Everyone is different and everyone looks good.

Children who tend to get absorbed in playing games at home,

By experiencing the joy of thinking for myself and the sense of accomplishment of working together,

He looked stronger and more energetic than when he arrived.

There was a time when I was involved in human resource development for about 2,000 people at a company.

I'm not very good at the idea of nurturing adults, but I was humbled,

I didn't give up (there were many times when I almost gave up lol)

However, the reason why I was able to work so hard was because of my superiors and subordinates, regardless of their position.

I think we were able to persevere because we believed in ``creating a spiritual foundation for mutual growth.''

From the mothers who participated in this event and watched over me as much as I did,

I received these words the other day.

``Even at home, we usually talk about taking care of things and eating without leaving anything behind, but...

I felt like I was getting the message across.

After participating in the event,

"What kind of meat is this? This is going to be a product!" he said with great admiration.

I'm glad I participated because it seems like my awareness of things and food has changed. ”

Obedience to accept "something" through experience.

I am amazed at the honesty of children.

As you get older, there are times when you simply don't get used to it.

Before I go to bed, I often reflect and think, ``Ah, I let my emotions out loud rather than being honest.''

Human resource development, parent-child relationships, companies, schools, homes, cram schools,

``Creating a spiritual soil where we can grow together'' is not an easy task, but

Continue to make steady efforts to face each other, one step at a time, without worrying that each other understands.

I really feel that this cannot be done without love.

Mr. J.Y. Park of NIJI project also said,

You say it's about your "concern and love" for the members, and I agree!

Next time, we will feature SDGs + sustainable leather.

We are planning to hold an event for adults.

#You only live once

#Limited resources

#Enjoy and enrich your life

I would like to share a fun time with all Brooklyn users, so if you have any requests, please feel free to contact me via Instagram DM or phone.

Finally coming soon info!

We are planning to release new bags in early November.

I would appreciate it if you could look forward to it.

Thank you for taking the time to read this.

“Today's Trial & Error”

It's kind of dark...

When I thought about it, it turned out to be beautifully charred.

As black as jet black

I was even moved.

Errors are inevitable when trying.

Errors are also memories.

And just bake bread without hesitation.

(There is only progress!)
